I thought this was good only because I liked that I knew the characters (for the most part) already. I liked the addition of Rachel’s view point. I didn’t think the search for Phin needed to be the whole dang book, but I’m glad it all wrapped up in the end. I would definitely suggest not reading it as a stand-alone because I would not have liked it as much. Read the first book then read this one.

I really enjoyed this second book in the series. I read The Family Upstairs but I don't think you need to read that first because there are many references to the characters and story from the first book. There are several pov's and time lines but it all melds in the end. I'm a fan of Lisa Jewell mysteries.

i guess henry's a legitimate psycho lol. ngl i was surprised he didnt actl kill finn, given the amount of animosity he felt towards him thru out the book. anyway, this was a nice little closure to the fked up kids that survived the horrors in the house, none of them went to jail and somehow lucy's murder of her ex-husband was put to rest as well.
the povs from rachel and henry were interesting, we got to see why rachel was stuck with an abusive husband (although some of her decisions made me question her sanity; like why on earth didn't she just divorce him immediately aft what happened) and henry is just whack as hell. his obsessive thoughts are damn scary and i was just convinced that he was gonna kill finn. he kinda redeemed himself in the end by reconciling with lucy (but then he went on to steal kris doll's identity so there's that)
overall, nice closure to the first book, honestly didnt think this book was rly necessary. given that the detective 'uncovering new leads' was everything we alr knew from the first book, so that part was kinda boring. but its still nice seeing the characters tidy up their lives and get their HEA

Eh I’m giving this 3.75 stars but rounding up because I like Lisa Jewell.
I don’t think we needed this book but of course I like her writing and was interested in Rachel Gold’s storyline and how it would converge with the family.
