Wow.
Started reading this feeling apprehensive. 1000+ pages? It was bound to get boring at some point. But then it didn't. Loved the writing, loved the characters, loved the storyline(s). The ending -- my god. So good.

Pretty amazing, and quite a commitment. All the what ifs and endless possibilities for a person answered here. I'm sure part of what I enjoyed was some of the familiar places and events, as a northeasterner. But also the thorough address of the characters who appeared in all of Archie's lives. Sometimes a story with alternative versions feels like a copout. Like the author couldn't choose. But that was somehow NOT the case in this book. Beautifully written.
Truly an epic tour-de-force by Paul Auster. Stunningly beautiful writing, fascinating premise, interesting stories. But at 866 pages of very dense prose, just a teensy bit too long? As I'm approaching the home stretch of this marathon I'm huffing and puffing a little, but once finished, I have a feeling I will turn right back to the beginning and read it again.

I have no notes. I am in awe of the talent it must've taken Auster to write all 4 such beautifully fleshed out realities, with something to be learned from each Ferguson.
I also love the ending of Ferguson-4 revealing he is the author and that he is the 'real' Ferguson.
