Zero Days
by Ruth Ware
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆

I listened to this audiobook and really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller. It felt like a cat-and-mouse game. Jack is a strong FMC, and her grit and determination keep you rooting for her.

The pacing is great with short chapters, constant danger, and twists that keep you guessing. That said, I figured out part of the plot fairly early. I loved the unique premise, but with the main event happening so soon, the rest of the book felt a bit repetitive. I wish there’d been more build-up at the start to connect with the characters.

In a word - predictable. This book so closely followed the plot of a popular 90’s movie that I knew exactly who the villain was the minute they were introduced. (So much so that I pictured the person who played the movie character in my mind the entirety of the book.) As a result, it was clear whether all subsequent events were innocent or devious. The writing style was fast paced and fun to read and there was a welcomed surprise at the end which provided a refreshing break from the tension. However, given the high praise Ruth Ware garners, I wish I had chosen a different book to be the first of hers that I read.
