A book you must sit in a quiet room to read but really interesting if you can stay focused.

having to read this in under three days was perhaps tantamount to psychological torture. however i enjoyed it

I wanted to like it more. I looked at the schema, I read the episode guides on https://www.ulyssesguide.com/ (very helpful by the way), and I listened to not one, but two audible lectures about the book.
But, God, what a slog.

This had no right being this funny. I’ve never seen human stream of consciousness put to paper so well.

While reading Ulysses can be quite frustrating, once I had gotten somewhat used to Joyce's style I found it to be an incredibly fun and rewarding book. At least most of the time.

Favourites: Lestrygonians, Sirens, Cyclops, Ithaca
Least favourite: Oxen of the Sun

I attempted to read this a few years ago for college but I DNF'd because I hated it. I got through the course just by reading short cliffnotes of it and even that was too much. Read the original, The Odyssey (which is brilliant), instead of this drivel.

Did I appreciate this book, yes.
Is it a work of genius, perhaps.
Did I enjoy it, no.
