Much better as an audiobook. Not super but enjoyable. Loved Mrs Wilkins, cracked up at Lady Caroline, very upset with Mrs Arbothnot's husband.

First published a century ago and still so imaginable and entertaining. Four women spend their nest eggs 'the fruit of her careful denials' on renting a property in Portofino. I loved reading about their interactions and the hierarchy between them. I was less keen when the husbands re-emerged but overall think it's a triumph of a book.

Still so relatable even given the decades of time between when this story was originally written and now. Lottie is a treasure who must be protected at all costs. I feel I might owe Mellersh an apology.... almost.

If I could give this book ALL OF THE STARS ⭐️ I would. I have never had a favorite book until now. This book was heart-touching, funny, beautiful. I cannot express how much joy reading this book gave me. I didn’t want it to end.

it took me a while to get into the flow of the sentences and before i knew it it was over! i had a wonderful experience reading this book, the descriptions of april in Italy and of the mindsets of the women were beautiful.
