This was such a relaxing read. One of the other guys left a disdainful review that was like "has anyone REALLY ever wanted to know about the daily life of the barkeep your party visits in-between missions? 🙄" and my answer is a resounding 'yes! Me! I do!'

Baldree takes the time to really set up his characters (speaking mainly to Viv and Tandri here) and allow them to build their relationship in a way that feels incredibly realistic and natural. Even the side characters that have very little screen time seem like real people. He really did an amazing job of capturing the energy of a local coffeeshop but set in a fantasy world

If you're looking for a low stakes, queer cozy drama this is it!

I was looking to get back into reading/audiobooks and I'm so happy this was recommended to me.

My favourite part of books is character interaction and this book is just full of a fun and loving cast and that warms my heart like a warm cuppa. Sometimes the plot can feel a little stretched to fit the coziness and there are holes, but I truly adore this book.

Narrator wise, Travis Baldree did an amazing job. I was skeptical seeing the writer doing the narrating, but his video game passion really shines through. He does a fantastic job and I was hooked all the way through.

It's nor nescessarily my usual kind of book (I tend to prefer the more emotional kind) but it is a impecable execution of the kind of book it is. What I loved the most was the cozy vibes, like the pages were made of cinnamon rolls. What I thought could have been better:
  1. This book is not a romance, I know, and I absolutely agree it shouldn't be one. Even then, I think the romantic side o Viv and Tandri's relationship was given too little attention. In my opinion, they either should have stayed ambiguos friends or their romance should have occupied a little more of the story's time.
  2.
I didn't like that Tandri became useless during the fire scene while Viv apparently became Superman

Spice Rating: 🫑 / 5 🌶️

Legends & Lattes was such a cute and fluffy cozy fantasy novel that helped me escape the world for a little bit.

Viv is a retired warrior looking to settle down and start a coffee shop. The only problem is that no one knows what coffee is and she's relying on a potentially fortuitous stone to help her through. Things seem to fall into place as Viv meets Cal, who helps her build up the shop; Tandri, who helps her advertise and serve the customers; and Thimble, who is constantly creating delicious new baked goods. Together, this band of four just might be able to create something so special it can succeed.

Going into this novel, I expected no plot and just vibes. There were definitely a lot of good vibes, found family, and friendship; but there was a bit of a plot with getting the coffee shop up and running as well as Viv's old gang coming back to town. The sapphic romance was a huge slow burn, but it was so sweet and worth the wait. I loved the vibes and the way the story showed how you can start over without forgetting your past.

A delightfully down-to-earth story set in a world most of us recognize as the backdrop for epic adventures of high magic and dangerous beasts, Legends & Lattes has us follow the main character as she opens a coffee shop in an unfamiliar city which has no knowledge of what coffee even is. She deals with some very mundane issues of corruption, business, and old friends, while a romance blooms in the background. My sole problem with this book is that it seems that romance stays a bit in the background; maybe the author is trying to riff on the whole "oblivious lesbians" stereotype, but I don't feel like there was a satisfying conclusion to that line, even as every other thread gets tied up in a neat knot by the end. Nevertheless, the book is generally quite lighthearted, very well-written, and a wonderful break from the "big" stories most fantasy novels trade in. I strongly recommend it, with the sole caveat to not expect much from the romance part of the story.
