"I think that when enough time has passed, when you've survived that which you didn't imagine you could, there's a dignity in that. Something you can own. A pride in knowing the pain made you stronger. The pain made you fight to succeed. Someday, when I'm living my dreams, I'm going to think of all the things that broke my heart and I'm going to be thankful for them."

Whenever I open one of Mia Sheridan's books, it is with the knowledge that my world is about to be rocked, that this woman, this crafter of words, will utterly captivate me with her characters and their story. Even knowing this, though, I am always pleasantly reminded that Mia truly has a gift, and that the worlds that she opens will stay with me for a very long time.

The story of Kyland Barrett and Tenleigh Falyn moved me. I read this book with little pause, eager to consume the entire thing. I couldn't NOT see how the relationship and story would unfold. And it is both beautiful and heartbreaking, this love story. It's a story about sacrifice, about overcoming fear, of stepping outside our comfort zone to reach that place that makes us more complete. And, ultimately, it's about hope. Despite the desperate circumstances that Kyland and Tenleigh face on a daily basis, there is still the flicker of hope that keeps them striving for more. That part of themselves, no matter how small, that allows them to keep going, to look for something more, for something better than they've known.

Once I finished KYLAND, I had to sit with it for a bit because I needed to process all of the emotions that it made me feel. This is the sort of story, as is true of all of Mia's books, that stays with you, that both shatters you and restores you. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. KYLAND is absolutely one of my favorite reads of 2015, and, as with all of Mia's books, one that I would recommend without hesitation.

Read this if you like small town romance; second chance romance; a strong country setting; character driven stories that may make you emotionally invested; Appalachian Mountains and the folks who live there!

This book was perfect for me as a reader, living right off the AT in Virginia I absolutely loved every bit of these characters and their struggles with living in the coal mining town of Dennville, Kentucky. I think Mia Sheridan did a wonderful job of handling with care the topics of mental health, poverty and sexual assault. In all areas but especially in high poverty country towns there can be unseen struggles that create a sort of vacuum on someone's life causing the circumstances to feel stacked against them with no "out" and this story really worked all those angles well. As a reader you feel the pull for Tenleigh and Kyland to BOTH get out of there to live a better/bigger/more full life with education at their fingertips and potential growth in jobs/careers/etc. and yet you know it can't be the outcome for them both and you want their love to be strong enough to keep them together. It is really a fantastic love story, both of first loves and second chances. Also, who doesn't love a romance story that quotes the classics like Wuthering Heights!!

Highly recommend and can't wait to read more by Sheridan.

What an emotional rollercoaster but damn this book was perfect.

A perfect second chance romance ❤️ I was hooked from start to finish!

I haven't read many books by this author, but you can bet that I will be working through their backlist! Whenever I want a read I just know I will enjoy, I am looking to this author more and more.

Getting to know both Tenleigh and Kyland was great! Their pasts were unraveled and I love how both their past and present were so intertwined. There was always something around the corner while reading this. You were surprised, happy, mad, heartbroken. All the emotions were on these pages, and it couldn't have been better!

And now I am off to go find my next read by Mia ❤️❤️❤️
