This is the type of romance book that will make you feel it all, and if you plan to read just one Mia Sheridan book, this one is it!!
Taking place place in a tiny mining town in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky, Kyland transports you to a world where the characters struggle from intense poverty, never having enough food to eat, electricity to get them through the month or a mode of transportation to commute the 6 miles to school or work. Alternating between Tenleigh and Kyland’s POVs, these two strangers/ academic rivals, who are both working towards the same college scholarship (the one that will get them out), end up forming a special friendship that you will not be able to let go of. However, when the line between friendship and love starts to blur, their future becomes uncertain.
I loved how the book explored powerful themes, such as true, unconditional love, sacrifice and hope. Like the characters in the book, I too was holding on to the hope that life would someday get better and brighten for these two and that they would find the happiness they deserve.

Ripped my heart out, again, Mia Sheridan. Loved this book! What an emotional roller coaster that last 40% was
Mia Sheridan’s books never seem to disappoint. I love the way she writes male characters, making Kyland my favorite in this novel. It was a BIT predictable, but it was a good book nonetheless. I wish there was a little bit less country slang, but understandable with the book being in Kentucky. I didn’t put this book down once while reading it.
This is probably my favourite book of April! one of my top favourites of Mia’s for sure! And definitely brought what I expect from her novels a heartbreaking beautiful love story that brings out all the emotions! In this one we have Kyland and Tenleigh they both have grown up on the Appalachian mountains and both know what’s it’s like to go hungry. Tenleigh lives in a trailer a few house up from Kyland, she lives with her mother who suffers from a mental illness and her sister who is a few years older. Together the two girls take care of their mother and everything else. Tenleigh is in high school and she has her eye on a scholarship that will get her out of this town and maybe a better life for her, Kyland is also competing for this scholarship to make a better life for him self after losing his father and brother in a mining accident years ago. These two try to stay away from each other, they know they can’t have each other messing up their chances of leaving. I loved there relationship so much, you really felt for both of these characters and I love the connection they had together. After their highschool life we jump to 4 years later and this part was so good also, i loved the time jump! This book will forever be a favourite and live in my heart!

I liked the book but, it lacked depth, there wasnt too much talked about besides tenleigh and kyland which i wouldve loved to learn more about their life outside of each other.
The plot was a bit too thin and predictable, but I still enjoyed the read for what it was.
This book was so cute and sweet and well-written. Just warm-hearted (plus spice). The last 1/3 was cheesy and predictable but that’s something I know of MS’s books. This was really nice though.
