It starts as a little, very poor town in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee. The only labor comes from a coal mine. Most folks live from food stamps, low paying jobs, and live a hands to mouth existence. Tenleigh and Kyland live that kind of existence. The presentation of that kind of life is very sad and depressing. It's hard to read about kids going hungry. However, they still found beauty in their books, in their walks around the mountains, and in the love that grew between them. “Sometimes my life felt so small. And I had to wonder why those of us who were given small lives, still had to feel pain so big.”

Spoiler
(see what I did there)The plot goes as follows:
1. Poverty-stricken town
2. Hot damaged guy
3. Hot damaged girl
4. Love
5. Heartache
Predictable? Yes.
Enjoyable? Very.
Angst? YES YES YES.
e.g. “I do go to hell. Every day. For you.”
Although the dialogue seemed immature at times and servant time-jumps were as frustrating as ever, Kyland proved an enjoyable read that, nevertheless, kept me flicking at imaginary pages on my Kobo.
I recommend Kyland to angst lovers and...well...angst lovers.
