Run Time

Catherine Ryan Howard

I listened to the audiobook because I love Alana Kerr Collins as a narrator and I love when she narrates Catherine Ryan Howard books since they are typically set in Ireland. I was immediately drawn into the story, trying to figure out what was happened to Adele on the set of Final Draft.
I don’t want to give away anything, so I’ll just say I was on the edge of my seat. I wondered if Adele could be trusted as a narrator. What happened to her previously? Why was she in LA at the start of the novel? I honestly enjoyed myself from start to finish. I don’t know that I would have loved the book as much in print because the narration really drew me in, but I highly recommend it and definitely recommend the audiobook if you like to listen to books!

Catherine Ryan Howard is such a phenomenal author! She creates chilling tales that instantly intrigue me as I listen to the audiobooks. I loved the premise of this novel and was excited to see the detailed backstories of characters, the atmospheric descriptions of indoor and outdoor settings and the haste with which her writing style propelled me toward the end of the story.

I really enjoyed the focus on the main character’s life as someone who moved from Ireland to the USA and returned home to work. The descriptions of hearty meals had me yearning for black pudding and the chilly winter weather had me looking forward to January.

Run Time had me grabbing my ear buds first thing in the morning so I could listen to it within minutes of waking. Even with many predictable aspects to the story (which I think may have been her intention with the plot of this particular book), I was shocked by some of the occurrences toward the end of the book! I loved how there were so many layers to this novel!

Wow! I loved this book so much and I could barely put it down. If you are looking for an atmospheric thriller with a lead that you will be rooting for than Run Time is for you. When Adele Rafferty, gets a phone call in the dead of night with an acting gig she maybe isn't as hesitant as she should be. She will get paid triple what she would make at the crappy hotel she is working in at LA and she had been one step away from quitting acting for good, so this seems perfectly made for her. She will play Kate one half of couple staying in a cabin in the middle of nowhere when creepy things start to happen. Life quickly starts imitating art when Adele begins to experience the same things. I figured out part of the book pretty early on but that did ntot take away from my enjoyment at all. This is my third book fro the author and my hands down favorite. I highly recommend this one!

Not sure how I feel about this one. It was good. I wish it was scarier. But the bookseption was pretty cool.

It was a slow burn but by the middle it had me in a chokehold, so much so I nearly had to take a xanax. Slightly far fetched but Catherine Ryan Howard’s writing had me turning the pages so fast. I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next.

Wow! This was so good! I had this on my radar for a few months, but things kept getting in the way. I finally had some time to devote to sitting down to read and I was not disappointed!! The parallels in this main plot, with the movie plot, and the book within the movie plot were at first hard to follow. Then, once I understood, I could not wait to uncover more to try and piece the story together. And the ending few chapters...yes!! I would recommend this for the intense thriller aspects, mystery whodunnit vibes, and stellar writing!

Blacklisted Irish soap star Adele Rafferty gets a second chance at stardom when she receives an unexpected phone call to play the lead role in a horror film called Final Draft, set in Ireland years after she left and moved to LA. The catch? It’s very tight lipped so she has to sign an NDA and fly to an isolated and secluded location in the woods of Ireland within a day or two. She can’t tell a soul about the film, the director, or the location. The film is called Final Draft.

Kate is the main character and the character that Adele is playing, but this book also takes a meta approach by having the script also play out in between Adele’s experiences. Kate is also in a cabin reading a book that she found there called Final Draft, and she starts experiencing some weird occurrences when things happening to the main character, Karen in the fictional book, start to happen to Kate, the character.

As you may have guessed, Adele also starts to see the same parallels in her life as well. Karen from the book, Kate from the script, and actress Adele are all experiencing unexplainable creepy things.

Essentially, this book was very unique. It had multiple layers and was unnerving. It genuinely scared me at multiple points and it was an absolute page turner.

I love how Catherine Ryan Howard writes such unique thrillers that do not fit the mold. Just like in how The Nothing Man had a fresh take on fictional true crime stories, this psychological thriller had a fresh take on b-list horror movies.
