Great story with a rounded-up 4.5 stars rating. The plot twists get you off guard even though at some point everything g becomes clearer and you can tell who is who and what is what. I was able to dissect the story from early on. That does not mean that it's not worth it. To me, it was a.very entertaining read. Lots or questions were left unanswered for me. Still loved it.
Oh my gosh, the “run time” for this book felt like 3 billion years…..it’s sooooo long and soooooo slow. It’s also not scary or very thrilling. I guess I’m still on the hunt for a great book set in the world of horror films.
Usually I complain that books are too cheaply made, but I’m not sure what Run Time was produced from as it somehow weighs like 5lbs. Great paper quality, but hard to hold for a long read in bed.

Heart pounding thriller with a welcome wit and knowing!
We all know that Catherine Ryan Howard is one of those authors that successfully hits the nail on the head with everything she writes. Run Time is no exception and a flippin’ LOVED this book! It has all the chills and heart racing atmosphere that you want a book set on a horror movie set to have, but it also has this wonderful sense of humour woven throughout (the cab driver who doesn’t know that Jurassic Park is a movie!? Genuine LOLs!) and a brilliant sense of affection for the movies. As a massive movie (as well as book) geek, this novel spoke to me on many levels! There’s so many great filmic references and some great movie wit throughout, which I found really enjoyable to read. I absolutely loved the book within a movie within a book concept and the movie script interludes. I both read and listened to this book and I found that reading the movie script portions was much more engaging than listening, as I got a greater sense of the atmosphere and tension they were fuelling. I really enjoyed listening to the other chapters though and narrator Jacqueline Milne really breathes life into Adele and perfectly captures her spiralling sense of disconcertion.
As well as being a really engrossing and fun thriller, Run Time also deals with some darker themes. In particular, I found the critique of women’s treatment in the entertainment industry to be really well executed. Adele is a popular television star, but things begin to unravel when she decides to leave that show to pursue work elsewhere. As a reader we don’t know what or who is the source of her troubles, but there’s many possibilities. Is she a victim if “me too”? Or a casualty of cancel culture? It’s a fascinating exploration of how women in the industry can be abused. It’s also a brilliant story of female empowerment though and Adele is kick ass character who refuses to remain a victim and is going to smash the patriarchy square in the face! I loved how she decided to no longer take any crap and took back control of her life and the situation. This worked incredibly well with the pace of the novel, which hurtled along at breakneck speed. Tension was heightened in all the right places, whilst the senses of isolation, confusion, desperation and determination were all peppered throughout the narrative perfectly. I was completely absorbed in Adele’s story and couldn’t ingest it fast enough!
If you enjoy a thriller that is steeped in atmosphere, tension and has a powerful female lead, Run Time should be at the top of your TBR. I can’t wait to see what Catherine Ryan Howard brings us next!

I was intrigued by the premise especially as a horror movie fan, but it did plod around a bit in the middle and I found the script within a book within a book about the movie (but is it really?) back and forth a bit hard to follow exactly what was going on. Then with the final reveal it helped shed a bit of light since there WERE multiple layers of things going on, but it did leave me slightly underwhelmed.
