I had not read the original edition of this book. I am glad that some of the references have been updated for a new audience. Give this one to your teens who want sad stories about love and loss. Recommended for grades 8 & up.

This one was a bit of a heavy read! I did enjoy it though! The storyline was really interesting at first, but then was lacking a little bit. Really think this is a little bit off the mark for the age range it is geared towards, but still a good book.

compelling story and addresses some if the complex issues it raises but could have used another 20-50 pages to tie up many of the loose ends it develops at the end of the book. it reaches a “climax” and then opens a myriad of emotional, mental and relationship problems and then sorta says “well i hope things work out in the future, bye!” which takes away the fun of reading a story with a plot. i want to know what relationships developed, which ones collapsed, why people behaved the way they did and the author did not explore much of that at all after introducing them.

I found this slow, boring and quite problematic. The anti-Blackness is appalling.

meh, this proves my point that you can't get much done in less then 200 - 300 pages.
