Yikes yikes yikes. All I really enjoyed was that this book gave us the introduction to the bridgerton world.
Daphne raped her husband, there’s not much more to say, much more explicitly so than in the show.
I found both of them to be annoying and wasn’t rooting for them. Simon was seriously traumatized by his upbringing, but Daphne magically solved it? Also, I hated how possessive Simon was, how he owned her.

If I wasn't such a nasty ass stubborn bitch, I would've DFN'ed this way at the beginning. BUT:
1. I AM a nasty ass stubborn bitch.
and 2. I have as a personal goal to read all 8 books of the Bridgertons series and I might as well start now.
So... one month later, many tears and sweat were shed and... FOR WHAT??? This was horrible. There were a couple moments I thought: "okay, that's cute Uwu". However, the other 95% of the book I was just waiting for it to end. I was so close to a reading slump. In fact, I AM so close to a reading slump. And IT'S SUMMER for goodness' sake. It is like the worst time to be having one... I'm tired. And don't even get me started on the abuse part or how it is basically not even acknowledged as such and romanticised at the end. I don't understand why the book fans are so focused on the show being faithful to the books when the show at least is enjoyable (and much better in general imo). I'll have to read THE OTHER SEVEN, but I'll just read a little old hockey romance and call it a day.

Certainly, it is different from the adaptation. While reading this, I could not imagine the characters as they were in the book but as they are in the Netflix series, at least physically, because some of the characters are quite different from the screen adaptation.
Some changes I liked, such as the omission of the subplot involving the Queen, which was not necessary at all and allowed more time for the romance between Daphne and Simon to develop. However, some changes I didn't like—clearly, Simon is much more misogynistic in the book than he is in the series! For the most part, the romance between them is really enjoyable, especially the banter. That's when Daphne isn't simping for him so hard that it's borderline cringe.
But the last third really ruined it for me. After they got married, the chemistry wasn't there anymore, and everything felt so forced. And the rape scene is even worse in the book than in the adaptation! This had so much potential, but the main issue of their relationship was not resolved in the best way.
