Well set it a drift. Very disappointed with HJ. It was a slog fest. I reach a point of why am I reading this because I am clueless as to what is transpiring and do I care enough to find out. No!

Grew tired of decrypting each sentence.  At some point realized…not worth it, life is too short

I got to the end and felt a tug to immediately read it over again because I'm sure I'd appreciate his craftsmanship all the more. I felt the same way with The Bostonians and Turn of The Screw. I found it difficult to read and I'm not entirely satisfied with the ending but Henry James is a master of prose and this ending maybe best. You're left with a lot to digest and interpret.

Just so incredibly boring. I kept waiting for anything of substance to happen but it’s truly just a “visiting people’s houses” book
