This book is the second book in a trilogy following Eve, the last girl on Earth. I wasn't a big fan of the first book, and unfortunately I find myself saying the same for this book though I did find this one slightly more intriguing than the first.

The beginning immediately follows the sequences in the first book. Eve has escaped the Tower and now she and Bram must work together with the Freevers to take down the EPO whilst remaining hidden and safe. We also follow the POV of Michael, one of the Final Guards of the Tower and how his dedication to save Eve reveals a whole different side of the Tower.

The world building is still quite poor as it was with the first book. I am still very unsure about what the world is like, how the world looks like, how it got like that, etc. This lack of description make it very difficult for me to envision what is going on in the book and how the surroundings would look like.

I found this book to be much more action packed and slightly faster paced than the first one which I felt dragged on and on. However, there were times where I found my attention drifting and I was having to force myself to focus on the book again. This happened for most of the middle section of the book as the pace picked up towards the 65% mark.

I think there were attempts at plot twists, however the biggest one that is revealed near the end, wasn't much of a twist considering I figured that out whilst I was reading the first book. However, there were some interesting things that I wasn't expecting during that same reveal. I love a good surprise.

If there's one thing the Fletchers can do, it's make you despise a character. I applaud them because I don't often feel as though I want to physically hurt a character. I was so angry as I followed Michael and learnt more about the EPO so the Fletchers did their job very well.

Whilst Eve and Bram are very key characters in the book, we didn't really see much happen with them until the end. I found their parts were the duller parts of the book, whilst Michael's chapters were the parts that kept me hooked. Michael's chapters revealed quite a bit about the EPO which did answer a few questions.

I very much expected a very YA feel to the book due to the first book, however I was a little startled during some of the scenes due to some graphic scenes. It wasn't extreme, however I question whether this is truly appropriate for the younger readers. There was also a scene where I was a little uncomfortable considering Eve is 16 and this book is supposed to be for young readers. Once again, it isn't descriptive but the knowledge that she is 16 made me highly uncomfortable.

Though many things are revealed, many questions are frustratingly still unanswered and I really hope the third book is able to answer them all. Similar to the first book, the ending is a cliffhanger and the third book is scheduled to come out October 2024.

I do think this book was better than the first, however, I still wasn't blown away. Many of Eve’s and Bram’s chapters were quite dull to follow and I did have to drag myself through the book several times. I might read the third book to hopefully get a conclusion, but I don't have the highest hopes for it.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was very excited when I finally got to read the next instalment.

We jump right in where the first book ended. It's full of action and is a little more grown up than book one. A bit like the later books of Harry Potter here the characters start to show who they really are and not all of them have Eve's best interests at heart.

I loved the multiple POVs. In book one we had Eve and Bram, in this book we also have Michael. For the narration, each POV had a different narrator which helped to separate the differences.

Gi and Tom manage to write so perfectly together. If you didn't know there were two authors then you wouldn't be able to tell. The story just flows.

Like book one this ended on a cliffhanger and I'm dying for the third part!

Im convinced this could have been 50 pages shoved onto the end of the first book
It was predictable in THE WORST way like i know it was obviously gonna happen but why god why
This one wasnt even as accidentally funny as the first one
Also like all for female empowerment but girly has literally never known a punch but she takes out several people over this book? Ok
STOP NAMING EVERYONE SUCH FUCKING STUPID THINGS!!! THE FREEVERS? STOP! KETCH AS IN KETCHUP? ARE U FUCKING WITH ME??
