Que história bonita!!! Já para não falar do desenho, que tão bem casa com o argumento. Por isso não admira que a Universal International Studios tenha comprado os direitos do livro para uma adaptação a série de TV.

Em Portugal, “Balada para Sophie” venceu os prémios de Livro do Ano Bertrand, Melhor BD de Autor Português pelo festival Amadora BD.

Palmas para a dupla Filipe Melo e Juan Cavia por darem vida a esta pequena maravilha.

This is one of the most well developed stories and complex plots I’ve seen in graphic novel form, and to think it’s translated too. Now that is artistry! The world building, developed characters evolved characters and compelling story hooked me from the very first note. 

The illustrations are gorgeous, I adore the style. It’s so colourful and varied. The plot stands strong on its own, but the illustrations enhance it wonderfully.

The music grad in me adored this. I related to the protagonists strained relationship with music. I am only recently relearning the joy of music after a less than great experience getting my degree. Something you adore can become something you despise, if it used and abused by the wrong people. In Julien’s case, it was his mother. 

I cannot stress enough how much depth is in this book. Graphic novels often rely on the illustrations in order for the story to make sense….but this, this story is phenomenal.

Ballad for Sophie is a tale of jealousy, the price of success, unlikely friendships and redemption. 

Prepare to be captivated.
