Příběh tří žen, na třech kontinentech, ve třech odlišně fungujících společnostech, a přesto se stejným jmenovatelem: odvahou udělat věci jinak, vzít osud do vlastních rukou i za cenu toho, že se vzepřou systému nebo svým nejbližším, navíc s nejistým výsledkem. I když nám můžou připadat problémy kanadské advokátky banální ve srovnání bojem o holou existenci Indky přežívající na dně společnosti, přesto je nelze bagatelizovat a mávnout nad nimi rukou. Vždyť jsou to koneckonců problémy každé ženy. Protože úděl žen má společnost ve zvyku vymezovat většinou negativně a ve vztahu k mužům: když žena zůstane doma s dětmi, tak je neschopná příživnice, když odchází do práce, tak je krkavčí matka strkající děti chůvám a do jeslí. Ale ženy bohužel nebojují jen se zažitými stereotypy na straně mužů: musí počítat i s nesouhlasem těch, které jsou na stejné lodi, tak jako Guilia narazila na odpor svých sester, tak jako Sarah podrazila její kolegyně.

I love the storytelling in this book, the way the three different strands all weave together at the end is just beautiful. Also, I was never tempted to skip one of the sections which is rare in books like this with three different plotlines!
