Not sure what my issue is with Doctorow is but his books always sound interested but then in practice they tend to slog for me and usually come up pretty boring. Not my favorite book of the year. Just okay.

Not bad, but not something I think I'd seek out if not for my 6+ year devotion to Doctorow. Also not necessarily his strongest work. You'll probably like this if you're more into mystery?
