[Sidenote: I've noticed a pattern with a lot of these shorter books. I read them despite them being not that great. Why am I continuing to read if there's no payout for me in the end? Note to self: I need to learn to dump them faster when they're not doing anything for me. There's a million fish in the sea. Why waste time with ones that don't do it for you? Hmm.]

Okay, so this was another case of "eh ok" but nothing special. It was an interesting premise, but I wasn't attached to the characters at all and when it switched from Tom's perspctive to the other guys, I lost any pretense of "giving a shit" that I might otherwise have been holding onto up til that point. At the end I was really only hanging on for morbid curiosity to see where it would go. Answer: nowhere.

Also, yes it's true that this here author did utter these immortal words: "and even the women were talking about it".

Oh.
My.
God.

EVEN the WOMEN were talking about it? Well, fuck, why didn't you say so, if EVEN the WOMEN--who have up until this point in the story been entirely NONEXISTENT. There are NO female characters except for a supernatural creature pretending to be a human woman. But I digress. If EVEN the WOMEN were talking, well, fuck me sideways and call me Steven, that's got to be THE most IMPORTANT SHIT in the UNIVERSE! You know it has to be when EVEN the WOMEN were talking about it.

Fuck my actual life.

Like fuck it right now.

I fucking give up.

What the actual fuck did I just read.

And why the fuck did I read it.

And more importantly, why did I continue to read it even after it said that.

Fuck this book for real.

Like for real. For real.

Recommends it for: NO ONE. Seriously. NO ONE out there read this fucking book. Casual misogyny at it's absolute worst because not only did the author think and say those things, but then a publishing company complete with *many* editors and proofreaders and a whole metric fuckton other people *read* that shit and gave it a pass. It went totally underneath everyone's radar.
