“She was, and is, the only woman I have, and will, ever love.
She changed me.
She fixed me.
She made me better.
And if she taught me anything, it’s that it’s okay to be afraid of the darkness, the tears in our souls, because when the sun comes up we can choose to be okay.
We can be broken, and we can be okay.”

I was lucky to receive an ARC for JC Hawke's newest book, The Grand Rise (book three in The Grand Men series).

The Grand Rise is part two of Lance and Scarlet’s story, which is so heartbreakingly beautiful that I did not want it to end.

This book made such a mess of me, but I could not put it down and completely devoured it in 6 hours. I loved it so much!

JC Hawke does not hold back on the final part of Lance and Scarlet's story.

I knew this final part of their story would take me on an emotional roller coaster, but I was still unprepared for the emotional experience of this book. It had me crying just from reading the prologue.

While reading Chapter 4, I had my heart in my throat, and my eyes welled up as I went through so many emotions. I was worried there for a second!

Whenever I thought things were going well between Lance and Scarlet, JC Hawke came a long and pulled the rug right out from under me.

I do not think I have ever cried this much reading a book before. JC Hawke broke my heart and shattered it into thousands of pieces while slowly putting it back together, but it was worth it because Lance and Scarlet’s story was complete perfection.

Thank you so much to JC Hawke for this ARC and the opportunity to read Lance and Scarlet’s story

I am obsessed. Let me explain.

This journey with Lance and Scar is embedded in my heart. The family dynamics are extraordinary and the love between them all is deeply seated in my soul.

Lance, if only he could see himself and others see him, broke my heart, put it together to break again over and over and the joy and happy tears I felt as he found his way home was just perfect. The love that was there for him all along, even when he pushed everyone away has stayed with me and his discoveries to love again was so emotional.

Scar, there is no doubt she is one of the most caring, kind and loving characters I have read in forever. She was willing to put her broken heart out there again and with Nina, Charlie and the others by her side she was always meant to find happiness and contentment and loved all her deepest wishes coming true.

I found their journey so emotional, I re read The Grand Ruin for a second time before this release and my heart and mind has remained with them over the last few weeks. It’s a duet with so much soul and the world created is perfect. I’m not ready to leave them yet.
Jess - thanks for creating such a wonderful world with these characters and I know there is more to come with Charlie’s story and I cannot wait to spend time with them all again.

Absolute and utter perfection

The end of a duology for Scarlet and Lance.

Their story follows a very similar story arc, especially with the added drama and toxicity. Their relationship is put to the test, and Lance has to really pull out all his cards to make me like him with some of the things he does. Scarlet and Lance seem to be able to overcome some of these differences and challenges thanks to the friendship they created before moving on to something more.

Scarlet let Lance off easy with some of his crap. I wanted her to make him gruel more. I understand that she needed to go through some of these difficult situations and be put in those situations to overcome her own issues, but come on! The man got off the hook so quickly. There wasn't a lot of spice, but the spice that did happen was full force. It wasn't a little lead-up here and there. It just seemed to happen all at once.

It was a little wordy again, but it was great seeing their story end, and it gave a nice lead-up to the next couple.
