While I tend to be very leery of books that are showered with immense praise, Out On A Limb proved to be a funny, realistic, refreshing, and sexy read. I enjoyed it thoroughly, as so many others before me. Pregnancy after a memorable one night stand? Not usually my trope of choice. However, OOAL is the kind of story that is so engaging and entertaining that you’ll potentially reconsider. I appreciated the on page discussions of reproductive choice, between Win and her doctor, Win and Sarah, and Win and Bo. Pregnancy is often inaccurately portrayed (from a physical perspective) in the romance genre, layered on top is the emotional weight of having to decide how to approach a potential co-parent. Your hormones are literally going haywire, your body is creating a whole other human, and you’re having to navigate a potential minefield of emotions! And to its credit, OOAL takes all of that into consideration and pulls it off with such intentional care. I loved that this book also had an own voices aspect to the disability rep. It is thoughtful and never comes across as ableist “inspiration p*rn.” The fact that Win has to comes to term with her own internalized ableism and natural concerns about the baby’s health was so relatable, and speaks to the deep seated concerns that many women feel but don’t often voice during their pregnancies.

And yes. Bo is absolutely as wonderful, emotionally vulnerable, caring, funny, and nerdy as you’d expect from a picture perfect book boyfriend.

Really enjoyed this one. Win & Bo were so cute together and Sarah & Caleb were entertaining. Loved all the relationships outside of Win & Bo as well. Watching their relationship grow was really special. Up until the end I would have given it 5 stars but then it got TOO cheesy and perfectly wrapped up. Loved the disability rep - it was important to the characters and their development but it wasn’t the main piece of the story - seemed realistic to me (as an able bodied person).

This book was SO SWEET!! Loved the disability rep, and Win and Bo’s relationship was just wonderful. The ending was a little too perfect but I couldn’t help but giggle and kick my feet. Kudos to Hannah for writing an accidental pregnancy trope that makes a really well-written story!

THE GOOD: I loved the disability representation in this. I loved that Bo was attentive and sympathetic even though he didn't understand what Win was going through. I loved Sarah and Caleb and their friendship with Win and the banter between all the characters was so good. And I loved that the book was set in Canada. I really liked the epilogue, too.

THE BAD: The story is only told from Win's POV and I feel like it would have been even better if we had Bo's POV, too. I also felt that the middle dragged a bit.

Favourite quote: "You are my soul's purpose, Win. To know you, to love you, to build a family with you, to spend every day taking care of you, to watch you shine and get all the good things you deserve out of this life."

If I had to sum up this book in one word, it would be “wholesome” 🥹

Oh my god. Bo. That’s it. That’s the tweet. I am obsessed with these two. This book is sweeter than candy and I ate it the fuck up.
