I'd like a bit more nuanced take on the way the heavens function ngl.
but it's a good ending to the series and the romance is chef's kiss. I miss the sex scenes :( not only from the horny point of view but also just because it's important to XL's cultivation, I'd like to see how it made him feel to risk/give up all that for HC. you know?

I enjoyed the series enormously and can't stop thinking about it all. I never expected to find some of the best writing in a random Chinese gay novel ngl. (maybe except the phrase *didn't know whether to laugh or cry*. I will never hear the phrase the same.)

What I would give to have someone who would destroy all my opps for me 😫

Overall series rating would probably be around 3.75 stars. Started reading this because I loved the donghua, but it’s still ongoing and I needed to know what happens next. The story is enticing but the storytelling itself isn’t anything to write home about which is mostly the reason this sits at a 3~ star for me. But I’m still so excited to see this on screen because the animation truly elevates the story so much. Godddddd I need someone as down bad for me as Hua Cheng is for Xie Lian, GOD WHENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

This was the most beautiful ending to this series I could have asked for. It was heartbreaking at times, such as this line that made me bawl my eyes out:

“You said…you would never leave me.”
“All banquets must come to an end. But I will never leave you.”

I cried so much, but the sad tears turned to happy ones. Not to mention, the extra chapters were so funny and sweet. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to move on from this series, and I’m glad I was able to go on this journey with the true love story that belongs to Hualian.

I'm very glad that the end of the book had

Xie Lian, Hua Cheng, Mu Qing and Feng Xing (and I guess the state preceptor, Mei Nianqing) battling Jun Wu together. Xie Lian's little inner circle warms my heart.

He gazed at Xie Lian. "If your dream is to save the common people, then my dream is only you. "

Relying on his memory, Xie Lian asked with a trembling voice, "But...you won't...be able to rest in peace...like this...?"

"I pray to never rest in peace," Hua Cheng replied.

Hua Cheng exploding into butterflies will always make me cry, but reading was a lot easier this time knowing what was coming.

After much hesitation, he decided to be blunt. "Why is the evil qi...internal? It's...it's coming from inside your body. "

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the extras this time around. I was under the impression they weren't very good when I read them in 2021, but they're so sweet. While tgcf is definitely not smutty, the book is still very clear on how exactly Hualian's relationship progresses.
