Heartwarming and whimsical, The House in the Cerulean Sea is the light fantasy the world needs right now. The plot is simple but the novel shines in its characters. The cast, especially the children, are delightful, as well as Linus's growth. Though the story was fairly predictable, it was a lovely read.

I enjoyed this book so much. Reminded me of Fantastic Beasts. I could not put it down.

I read this on holiday and it is perfect if you want a LGBTQ+ love story with heart to enjoy and relax with. The characters were imaginative and endearing and I really wanted to find out how things panned out for them. It perhaps simplifies slightly some of the challenges faced by anyone who doesn't fit in with conventional societal expectations but the comparison with the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community resonated with me. This book gave me warm and fuzzy feelings.
Yet another book I am supposed to love but only felt was lukewarm. I was interested in the parallels to what’s going on in our world (lgbtq issues, indigenous displacement, undocumented immigrants, etc), but I wanted more. I would have liked to learn more about the backstory to all of these kids and a deeper understanding of their entire world. I can see why people like it, but I found it boring. Not for me unfortunately.
Just an absolutely heartwarming book. It was a delight to read and I’ll be starting the sequel immediately.
