This was rather unexpected! At the beginning I was kinda disappointed with the turn of events. But then the events kept turning I guess. And it was delicious to read. The core crew gets a back seat for the most of it. But Bobbie gets a prominent role, which is always a treat. The 'villain' had the perfect love to hate characteristic. And it seems like an end is truly near. Can't wait to read the penultimate entry next.

I just am constantly in shock with this series. Apart from a banging plot, the pace is excellent and the stakes are always serious. Not to mention the really serious questions this book makes me ask myself. About humanity, history long past and futures to come. About how people act with each other in moments of crisis, the absolute good and absolute horror we can inflict to each other .

The huge time skip from the previous instalment was extremely disconcerting to start off with. Could have used more exposition on that, otherwise a good read.

3.5.... #7 in the series is 30 years after #6. That was annoying to me. I like this series because of the protomolecule. The protomolecule doesn't show up until the last couple of pages. That also annoyed me. It just seemed to be a side-story...Hopefully the next book is more focused on it.
