This is book 7 in the 9 book The Expanse series, however, from about half way through, it started to become clear that this might be book 1 in the Laconian trilogy which bookends the series.

Laconia, a break-away from the Martian military (several books ago) which went through the gateway, returns to the Sol system bringing protomolecule-based technology that is far superior to anything that the Earth-Mars Coalition or their loose ally, the Transportation Union, can field.

Again, the crew of the Rosinante is split up and it will take 2 more books to bring them back together again.

Still going strong

The series keeps propelling me to purges the next book, so that’s saying something. I liked this one better than the last 2 but the cliffhanger is frustrating.
