As it's Pride Month I really wanted to choose a sapphic book to read this month and this has been on my radar a little while so I decided to jump right in.
I've seen a few people saying that there is a bit of an insta love trope in this but it didn't feel that way to me, it just felt more like established love that hadn't been voiced and I quite liked that.
Lope and Ofelia are very different characters, one being the girly princess and the other the heroic knight but I think they worked well together and I liked that the story was told from both of them.
I think out of the two of them I did prefer Lopes chapters rather than Ofelia's. I'm not entirely sure why this is, maybe there was a little bit more action in these chapters and even though she is a knight she has a soft heart to her.
I really enjoyed the story, it had good pace to it overall but I will say sometimes this was a little slow in places and the ending for me felt a little rushed but I did enjoy it.
This book has a really stunning cover and the illustrator has perfectly captured how I pictured the characters. I am really glad I picked this up to read and I would definitely look at other books by this author.

I had been looking forward to this for so long, and I was right to. There was such beauty in every word, the way it tied worldbuilding with connection, and how they truly felt to be one. This piece talked about sacrifice, love, and want in ways that would forever change how I view such things.
The relationship between Ofelia and Lope is everything to me. They love each other so dearly, and that is the fact, and yet the distance and waiting between them feels so realistic. I hope they are happy in the future they get with each other, as they try and figure out a world that is new to them both.
My only complaint is that the pace fluctuated in odd ways, that sometimes felt too fast or slow. But other than that, it was everything to me.

This was fine. Ofelia really frustrated me during this book and I found myself only wanting to read Lope's pov. I also thought the ending wrapped up a little too nicely.

my nearby bookstore had this out before it was supposed to be realeased, so i got it early >:D
holy god the amount of exclamation marks the mc uses is annoying
Promising premise but so much of the characters telling us what they are like in their POVs rather than actually demonstrating it, and the insta-love felt contrived and over dramatic rather than building over the course of the story.

Keeping it spoiler free: this book reminds me a bit of a romantic oil painting. Everything about it feels soft and beautiful (except for the shadows!). The inclusion of Spanish and French also felt very natural and ingrained in the world. The characters were so well written that it was hard not to fall for them. And although it is indeed a queer romance, the fact that they are queer is not a central focus point. It is just a love story with magic and gods and beautiful poetry.
I will say the pacing is a little weird, but the overall story makes up for it
This is easily one of my favorite books now.
