It's a beautiful story. I learned a lot about Tibetian culture that I hadn't known before. However, the writing is really elementary and does a lot of telling, not showing.

A good read, especially considering the content is based on a true interview. It is remarkable the amount of time covered in the book and the rough sketch feel of the broad swathes of life covered by this woman. I think because of the limited information and interviewing it did feel a bit empty and unpopulated, much like the Tibetan Plateau where much of the book takes place.
