The idea of book eaters is pretty wild and it took me a while to buy into it, but once I did I really enjoyed the story. Mostly it’s a story of motherhood/survival/a fight against the patriarchy. It leaves you with a lot of questions about the survival “eaters” at the end, but I wouldn’t say it needs a sequel.

Ok this is a though one to review.
I'm leaning more towards 2.5 than a 2. I feel a bit generous because the original concept was good- and a nice twist to your typical vampire story- and it successfully entertained me, which was why I bought the book in the first place.
I didn't expect some profound and heavy read and it was ok.
Maybe I would have enjoyed it more overall if I didn't read it in bits and chunks while commuting to work.
Anyway, I think the pace of the story itself was a bit off, the alternating chapters were both interesting and keeping you hooked and slowing down the rythm.
The ending felt rushed and the love story was introduced too late for me to care.
Also, a bit too much repetition of the same words/adjectives over and over. (If I read "chagrined" again I will explode)
All that said, I enjoyed the setting, I grew fond of some of the character and I liked that everyone was a morally gray individual.
So, in conclusion, the book had its problems but I wanna reward the potential.
