Oh wow, I have a some thoughts about this book.
I don't know how to slide into the topic so we'll just jump right in
(DISCLAIMER)
Its been a while since I read the book I might have overlooked something in this review
1. The Characters
This book features Jason, Piper and Leo as the main characters, and we hear the story troight their POV's. OH BOY did this tear down the score.
I absolutely could not stand Jason, not a single bit, I hated his POVs. Every. Single. One. He is just so boring and has ZERO personality, no character arc (tho to be fair neither do the others) and is just not relateable in the slightest (this is a more personal thing tho). I remember just dreading reading from this mans POV. For some reason, the others say he is the leader? Why? He rarely did anything leader-like, and they'd known him for like, a week? This is a little meta but the entire book hust has the "white main character with POC side-kicks" vibe to it.
Now for Piper. I have to say I didn't like her very much either, I only started warming up to her towards the end of the book. She just, spends most of the book lamenting over Jason or hating being pretty?? Idk, I just don't like the trope of women not being allowed to:
1. Be pretty
2. Know they're pretty
And
3. Like the fact that they're pretty
It just feels like her entire personality for this book is "I am pretty but I don't want to be bc pretty girls are EVIL". The only thing she thinks about for the majority of the book is either Jason or how much she hates being pretty, it just kind of ruined her POVs.
And lastly we have Leo
Now, I will start by saying that Leo is one of my favourite characters in the entire Percy Jackson universe, and I don't have many complaints about him. Hes funny, but has his serious moments and he also had very relateable struggels with self-confidence and feeling like a 3rd wheel (which he pretty much was sooo). That being said, him being the only likeable of trio for the majority of the book made it very hard to go through! And not to talk about the stereotypes! Leo is latinx, and he constantly says "Mamacita"

4.5 stars. It’s the fourth-best book of the series, not as strong as volumes 2-4, but following closely behind. Can’t believe “The Gloss Review” haven’t reviewed The Lost Hero yet! Here it comes:
I adore this book. I reread it every year around the time of the winter solstice. Only now, in 2022, do I see how much of the characters’ future is foreshadowed here. It’s a nostalgic read. Of course I’m dearly missing Percy in this one, but at least Annabeth gets a few moments to shine. How sad that Percabeth only had 2-3 months together before this happened!!! Everyone (including the readers) was tempted to join Hera‘s anti-fan club. I LOVE how the Demi-Gods have the sass to tell her so, especially Jason.
As Jason is the hero who lost his memory. While he is being introduced, it is difficult to feel connected to him or get to know him. He seems to have few feelings or personality traits outside of his roles of being “lost” and being “a hero”. Hence, the title.
Piper has a deeply interesting backstory and personality. Her POV is great. The only thing that’s missing is her reckoning with her relationship with her mother and siblings. What do they really mean to her?
Leo is a favourite, of course. I just wish he’d speak about his feelings instead of staying silent or joking around.
The writing is great. It’s definitely much better than in the original series. The switches between the 3 POVs are perfect. The only issue is with Aphrodite. She talks in such a strange way. Also, what exactly are the powers of Aphrodite’s kids besides charmspeak? Because only a few of them have that power. The rest is apparently just good at “seeing possibilities” and “speaking French”? And, I’m sorry, but there’s no way black leggings, a turquoise dress and a snowboarding jacket will make Piper the best dressed ANYTHING in town. The combo is said to “work surprisingly well” because I’d be surprised if it worked even a little bit. I see that there is more diversity in Heroes of Olympus than in the Percy Jackson series, but it’s brought into it in such a strange way. It is quite obvious that it’s always the same narrator telling us about “someone from a diverse background”, rather than a truly authentic POV. Some sensitivity readers would have improved Leo’s and Piper’s POVs.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! It's definitely different reading by reading more than one point of view but I still like it. I'm still trying to grasp the whole Roman/Greek gods and demigods concept. It's pretty confusing. I was also pretty mind blown when I read the end of what Hera did to Percy and to Jason but I do understand why she did it. I definitely also hope James and Piper become a couple 'cause they are definitely cute together. Haha. I can't wait to read The Son of Neptune!!!!!

This book is very Amazing! and to the author: Rick Riordan I really love your books.... I was really surprised at the things Piper and Leo could do. And I was also surprised to find out Jason had a sister.....This book is extraordinary I gave this book 5 stars because I really loved it, It's kind of mysterious of what they can do and who are the other 4 demigods from prophecy? I am very exited to read the next book SON OF NEPTUNE. Anyways..... long story short....This book is amazing love everything about it....

I was told going into this that if I could push through the Percy withdrawal, then I would be able to enjoy it and I have to agree. I started this book the same day that I finished The Last Olympian, and it was a nice palette cleanser since there were no tears this time. I enjoyed getting to meet some new characters and the last couple of chapters made up for how much character-building was done for these three main characters. I know that the next book is going to be very similar to this one since it introduces two more characters and sets up the main plot of the series, so I'm excited to see how that goes and the setup for the third book. I've heard that in this series the third and fourth books are the superstars, so I just need to power through the next one to get there.
