Definitely different from the first 5 Percy Jackson books, and this is a re-read and I will say I hated Jason on the first read but I don't hate him anymore so that's a win in my book. I do like the new characters and Riordan is just so creative and a genius.

I like Riordans writing a lot, but as a character Piper's not-like-other-girls attitude kind of ruined it for me. She constantly judged other girls to the point it got hard to read her chapters. I skipped the second half of the book and came back to the series to read the other 4 later and I grew to like her a lot. Not sure if the author toned down this character trait or if it just bothered me less once I was more into the plot
