What happens when two people come together and agree to start a no strings relationship? Will love take over even though this wasn’t wanted? Or will the past haunt them forever and tear them apart?
Not sure why it took me so long to dive into a Colleen Hoover novel, but I am so glad I did. This of course, is the first novel I have read by the author and it will not be my last. Hoover has a way of writing a romance novel that leaves readers feeling satisfied. Similarly, Hoover is able to successfully weave the story from both characters points of view. Sometimes this is a hard feat because readers end up picking sides. But for this one, I understood the emotions and actions from both Tate and Miles. WOW. It’s just, plain, beautiful. I felt a myriad of emotions reading this one. I some points I felt pure lust, in others I became an emotional wreck. I am so glad I picked up this book and I have a feeling that many readers would agree! Way to go Hoover, you made me an instant fan-girl.

Edit: Don't listen to the audio book. If you read Ugly Love, read it with your eyes. The poetic writing in Miles' POV and the steamy scenes are not meant for reading aloud.
3,5 stars rounded down.
While Ugly Love is alright overall, there are just so many other books that I would rather recommend + plus I'm not left with the feeling that I'll miss the characters or the story now that it's finished.
"I'm a fool, but at least I'm a self-aware fool."
That quote just gives me the ick because Tate keeps up her self-destructive behaviour even though she knows she shouldn't, if she wants to take care of herself. The whole story ending 'happily ever after' just adds to the romanticization of destructive and toxic relationship behaviour.
On further thought, give Ugly Love 2 stars.
Ugly love is a fair take on the dual POV trope (with a single chapter's exception), but while Miles' and Tate's stories show similarities after 6 years, it just never quite clicks. Most importantly, Miles' behaviour doesn't ever add up to me. Yes, he's closed off because he's scared of being vulnerable again, but WHY DO THEY NOT COMMUNICATE??
Honestly, while being cute and hitting in the feels, this book is mostly frustrating.

3.5. I typically love Colleen Hoover books but this one fell a little flat for me. It also read a little juvenile compared to her others. Still a very fast and engaging read.

Really don’t want to support this author since she’s problematic but I have a few of her books already owned that I need to get through.
This book was bad though. It was switching time lines between shitty fanfic/episode story and awful poetry. Can’t believe this book has over 4 stars lmao

Tate is a spineless doormat and Miles needs intense therapy and Corbin is weird and sorta sexist. And throwing "gay" around is lame and saying something has "Asian writing" on it is vague and uncultured.
Get some damn therapy and sex education up on your ass.

reading colleen hoover books are always. so PAINFUL. not because they're tear-jerkers or anything (though i'm sure they're intended to be), but because the execution is always so BAD. it genuinely makes me sad, because she always comes up with such GOOD ideas and then i read the actual book and i just see all the potential fucking explode into a depressing bloody mess. anyway i read this hoping for a romance and instead i got a weird insta-love infatuation/attraction/what-was-even-going-on thing (?) and the weirdest fucking backstory i've ever laid my two poor, overburdened eyes on. though, ngl, i *was* kinda invested in the backstory. (i'm SORRY okay SUE ME BUT THE DRAMA... THE INTRIGUE... I AM BUT A POOR WEAK SOUL. I CANNOT RESIST. PLEASE FORGIVE MY SINS.)
this was meant to be a palette cleanser before i start reading the dragon republic, and while i can't say it accomplished the job in the way i had hoped, it did end up accomplishing the job, so! one point for colleen ig
also i love how i write this review (? more like stream of consciousness) as if i won't be reading another colleen hoover book in a couple months... hehe :)))
god i'm gonna regret this in the morning aren't i
