I found this book incredibly helpful, particularly in the first trimester when my anxiety levels were high, and also now in third trimester when I'm starting to think more about labour and delivery. There's a well-written critique on here from an O&G consultant who made some fair points and so this book isn't perfect. Her analysis of evidence around alcohol risk has also raised some eyebrows. It's also quite American so some of it isn't really applicable in the UK. Nevertheless I found it a helpful adjunct to other reading and my knowledge - her tone and approach to looking at the data behind recommendations was refreshing and interesting.

This book was underwhelming. I didn't find her writing skills to be strong, and I found myself wishing that she had chosen footnotes instead of endnotes. Some of the common things pregnant women hear were discussed in detail while others weren't. I understand it's her prerogative to choose what she found important, but since it's a book for the general public I was let down by several chapters, especially the epilogue where she hints at breastfeeding vs formula issues, but then backs off because she was only writing about birth anyway. Blah.

I know a lot of people love this one, but it was just okay for me. I did learn some things from this book I hadn’t read elsewhere, but the overall experience wasn’t not as good as others I’ve read.
