Good overview with data

Great book for a future parent.

Overall, this book contained some interesting and helpful information, and it addressed several questions I've had.
As a pediatrician, I did take issue with a couple things:
1) the repeated use of "mental retardation" as an outcome for the child is outdated and inappropriate (particularly since the version I read says it was updated in 2019). "Intellectual disability" is the preferred term.
2) Oster suggests that instrumented delivery poses virtually no risk to the baby, which I disagree with.

Still, worth a read if you're pregnant (or thinking about it) and really want to know some of the evidence surrounding many of the recommendations that exist. The book was thoughtfully researched, and the information was (mostly) presented in a balanced manner that likely wouldn't make someone feel bad about making one decision or the other.

Evidence-based, data-driven decision-making regarding pregnancy & labor, delivered in a no-nonsense format by an economist and mother. Data > fear mentality. Hard copy would be beneficial for stats/studies discussed in the book that are difficult to fully retain in audio format.
