It was great to finally read this book that has inspired so much other media. A charming fairly tale.
I'm not sure I'd ever read this book before, but it was fun! There are a few things that I loved about the book that weren't in the movie (green glasses they wear in Oz, the backstory of the flying monkeys). There were also several plot lines that seemed superfluous (the weird bobble head guys?). Glad I read it and might try more in the series.

I had to read this after seeing Wicked for the first time this past November.
I’ve grown up familiar with the movie The Wizard of Oz, since it’s my mom’s favorite movie of all time. It was interesting to see finally see the differences between the book and the film. It was surprisingly more than I knew from common pop culture knowledge!
I think if you’re interested in the movie you should give this book a read.

Definitely a kids book. Pretty good all things considered, just not particularly gripping.

This book does read pretty young (which I expected, it’s a children’s book), but I wasn’t expecting how murderous this book is. Lots of head-chopping, lots of animal death, which to be honest, kids will probably love. I think if I’d come to the story knowing nothing, I’d probably have got more from it if I wasn’t so familiar with the story from the film and other media. Still a fun book, but not my favourite.

For a children’s book this was a bit darker in places than I had perhaps realised - a lot more chopping the heads off things and people than in my fave, the film version 😂 but a cute little story with a good message at its heart.
