This was an ok story, but a little creepy for children.
A colourful little jaunt consisting of a series of slightly ludicrous and easily overcome obstacles.

This was a bit of silly, goofy fun. I did have come criticisms but also understand that it's a children's book and I'm long out of that demographic, and some of the things I didn't like as much may come into the fact that it is written for children. There were some funny moment where I laughed out loud, but I found the story to be overly convenient at times and the pace was so fast that I felt we didn't get to dwell in some of the moments and the world. My edition also had the Little Wizard Stories of Oz at the end which seemed completely inconsistent with the world and storyline of this first book, so I'm not sure if I'm interested in reading more from this series as I believe these were written to get a younger audience into the series. Overall, I generally enjoyed my time with this book and am glad to have finally read the book that inspired one of my favourite movies, which I may just go and watch now.

Second time reading this book. First time was to my nephews in 2008. Now It was to my own children. This book holds many warm, cozy memories with children that I adore. Not easy to write a non-biased review considering the context.
I think that this book offers a simple story, I like that the adventures have an amount of thrill easy to engage without becoming overwhelming.
It should be more 3 1/2 stars but because of the warm memories of reading aloud to my children and my nephews before, I will give it a little more.
One of my favorite quotes: “I shall take the heart, returned the Tin Woodman, for brains do not make one happy, and happiness is the best thing in the world?”

Since I had already seen the movie more times than I can count, a star rating isn't really fair for the book. I mainly just found myself reading with interest to find out how the book differed. Overall, although I still love the movie, I don't think it did the book justice. It would be a great book to study, but I think it would be best to be studied by those who had not seen the movie.

First published in 1900 and still inspiring people till this day. A great classic about a little girl dropped into a land of mystery trying to find her way home. Fun for both young and adult readers.
