it’s true, nothing beats a classic, they said <3 the wizard of oz is a a magical tale ~~ short and fast but didn’t fail to excite and entertain me :)) so, goodbye yellow brick roadd~~ i loooovee, wicked naman next ;) thanks to that one phineas and ferb episode i watched back then that gave me an idea on this story!! wahahha but to read and experience the journey myself, years later, its a whole lot better ;) looove the characters and their whole journey
A charming but nevertheless maddening tale that proves the victor always gets to write history. The story of a wretched little farm girl from Kansas who, upon traveling to a new land, murders the first person she comes in contact with. She is praised for her bloodstained efforts, and upon meeting a group of bizarre friends, she is contracted by a local politician to murder again.
I can't believe I've never read this book. It's so magical! It's so much better than the movie too. There are really big changes from the movie to the book. The shoes are different, their journey is different, the witches are even different. I loved how much this book had me visualizing something completely new and opening up an alternate version of Oz that I never knew. I need to read more books by L Frank Baum!
Rating 3.5
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a delightful story I've had the privilege of reading twice now. The first time I read an old 1940's hard-back edition of it and just now I've listened to Academy Award Winner Anne Hathaway's illuminating Audible performance.
This story is an extremely simple one, with little in the way of dramatic plot or construction. What it lacks in flair it makes up for in imaginative fun. Baum's brain is a wonderland of delightful fantasy and creatures who surprise on every page. Hathaway's narration is stellar, with a surprising range of dialects and voices that truly bring Baum to life.
