Not to be dramatic, but one of the best books I’ve ever read. Incredibly painful to read but fundamentally shifted how I see the world and myself.
Graphic: Fatphobia, Homophobia, Racism, Sexual violence
This book was so so sad but really helped open my eyes to the struggles that many people face in our society. It is so well written and her writing style really allows you to understand what she went through. The combination of insightful metaphors along with casual language and moments where she just writes her thoughts exactly as they are were especially helpful in understanding her story. Highly recommend to anyone who is interested!

"Does anyone feel comfortable in their bodies?" This was a brave book to write. It made me reflect, sympathise, feel annoyed and uncomfortable, relate and not relate, understand and realise that being 'fat' is a big problem in so many more ways that just the obvious.
It feels wrong to rate this book so I’ll just say that it was very honest and hard to read and it made me very sad but I still think it’s important and would recommend people to read it.

What I like most about what I've read of Roxane Gay's books is that her writing really just feels like a friend talking to you casually. I listened to this on audiobook where the author is the narrator so it felt even more like that. This was a very eye-opening read. It really made me think of how I treat others and think of others and of myself. Definitely worth a read.

A difficult book to read but so, so worth it.
