Nevermind instead of nevermore! Hahahahahaha. This book was very funny. And it was horribly tragic. I was shocked at the ending but yes, it made so much sense. Great writing. I was lost in the beginning but I got the hang of it. The cactus, purple dress, Lila, lots of interesting little details surrounding the ridiculousness of castle living.

Very melancholy, but also very funny at times, and so beautifully written.

What a dark, tragic book. I felt close to teenage Janet, so it made me feel sad. Gothic, black humour, beautiful prose. 5 stars because it was so well written.

This deserves a reread. I saw the blueprint for so many other gothic novels and I saw such close inspiration from others.
