Moderate: Vomit, Sexual harassment
on the one hand, I wish i’d been able to read this when I was younger. on the other, I would hesitate to give this book to a young teenage girl and leave the handful of incidents of male violence (although perhaps realistic) unaddressed.
Just not the vibe rn - going to revisit in the fall.

Ended up skimming this after the first few pages, as I did want to see how the story would wrap up. But the ending is really vague and I didn’t quite get it, so I might as well have DNF’ed it?
I just couldn’t get on board with the writing style. And because that’s one of the main reasons people give for loving this book, I struggled from page 1. There’s no plot, but there are endless descriptions of a child’s adventures. It just wasn’t something I connected to. One of my pet peeves in writing is when a writer describes the change in season/weather with incredible detail, and that’s exactly what this author consistently did. And when issues about gender came to light, which could’ve been interesting to explore further, they were fleeting and seemed to pass so quickly they might as well not have been included. I really wanted to like this, but it just wasn’t for me.
