This particular book is enticing, not only because it takes place partially in Nevada, but because Pike mixes the current story line with one from Sita's past...and they are more connected than she hoped.

This one isn’t worse than the first, but I liked it even less. It switches into the military action genre, with alchemy and Vegas vibes thrown in. None of that appeals to me whatsoever, and I’ve completely lost interest in basically everything about this series. I skimmed the second half.
I have no intention of continuing Sita’s journey, but I am no less interested in seeking out other Christopher Pike books.

This book was pretty good. I enjoyed reading it. I'm really enjoying this series so far as it provides another take on the whole mythos of vampires. Mr. Pike writes incredibly well and really knows how to keep people coming back for more!

(violence, violence, though no overt sex or language)
So the story is that I loved these books in high school (I had to check the copyright dates to assert that, yes, it was indeed high school that I read these - I hadn't really abandoned all teen lit to the sci-fi section and homoerotic bildungsromans) and found volumes 2-5 for a quarter apiece at the Brown Elephant, the A-ville thrift store. They are as adventure packed as I remembered, although ridiculously implausible and filled with deus ex machina. Even more filled with religious undertones than I remembered - hell, they're overtones! No wonder I decided to minor in religion in college.

Even though all these books end with To Be Continued... the plots of each are episodic. This one was a fun, action movie-like romp. It was ridiculous and I loved it, but I also love dumb action movies. I'm not sick of this series yet and am going to plunge ahead with book four next.

It was alright. Better than the first one. I liked the plotline with Arturo, although I enjoyed the drama of his fall into madness a lot more compared to the action of the modern day plotline. It got stale after a while. I didn't connect to any of the characters and am not in any way interested to keep reading the series. Kinda wish I stopped at the second one.
Graphic: Blood, Child abuse, Child death, Confinement, Death, Gore, Torture, and Violence
Moderate: Infertility and Medical content
Minor: Rape
