Meh. I’m getting tired of finding books on lists about the ‘best thrillers of whatever year’ and ‘plot twists you’ll NEVER see coming’ and KNOWING better but checking them out anyway and then being surprised at how mediocre they are. I mean, I know myself! I know what I like! Why do I keep reading these poorly edited, lazily written books and expecting to be blown away? I’ll tell you why, it’s bc for every four lame books like this dud, I stumble across a Last Mrs Parish or a Silent Patient that truly BLOW ME AWAY, so I just can’t resist. Ugh. Skip this. You know who the killer is from like page two. But obviously there’s something intriguing bc I tore threw it. Chloe was just dumb and unlikeable and this book was just lame. Solid read with excellent writing. I like how the author seamlessly switched from past to present. The premise of this story is unique. People don’t often think about the impact a crime has on the perpetrator’s family. That they are victims of the crime too, and I believe this is a very important thing to be explored and for society to understand. However, I did find it a bit slow in the middle. I started to worry that there would be no twists, but there was and it was pretty satisfying. Overall, would recommend.

This was a very well written thriller. I had heard good things about it so I was excited to dive in and it did not disappoint. The book does instil fear and doubt into you as to what is actually happening. Please believe people when they say this is good!! I will definitely be reading more of Willingham’s works.
