Another interesting pick off of the Booker longlist. I was actually drawn to this cover in a bookstore far before I found out it was included on the list, but its cover is equally as beautiful as the story itself. I love this book's prose and short choppy narrative style as it echoes that of the boxing matches beautifully. Although the subject matter was not in my wheelhouse, the descriptive language allowed me to keep up with the fights pretty well, but let's be honest, this story isn't about the fights at all. Getting to be inside the characters' thoughts was interesting yet sometimes repetitive, which in a way mirrors our own excessive thought patterns. Not my favorite book I have read off the list, but also not bad, and would recommend it to others since it is such a short read.
I read this as research for a boxing character in space, and the last chapter talks about girls still boxing even on other planets. Wild coincidence lol. Also, this was a fantastic book.

I really liked the set-up of the book and how it was executed. Some really powerful paragraphs and imagery used as well.

Interesting and structurally ambitious. But prose could do with tightening in a few places and the scenes were occasionally a little repetitive. I did not like the final chapter.
