Second Koontz in a row and also the second 3 star rating. I didn’t love this book but I think that was just my failure to connect with David, the main character. The story would have been better if I could have understood or liked David more, I honestly didn’t care what happened to him…
It started off with a really cool mystery but then I found the ending to be just a little far-fetched and a little Stephen Kingish (think the DOME)...I wasn't impressed...
I was as disappointed as I expected to be. Can't believe I used to like Koontz's melodramatic overbearing bullshit.
I have been reading Koontz for well over twenty years and typically enjoy his work. This novel simply did not capture my interest as most of his works do and I cannot put my finger on the why of that. The Other Emily is well written, as all his work has been. I didn't find the characters distasteful, although I didn't particularly care for them, either. When I finished I simply was "meh".
I’m sorry but this was just not for me. I had a hard time focusing while reading this and was hoping for a more thriller-type aspect from it.
It was alright
Good enough to keep me mildly engaged, but the sci-fy end seemed lazy and anticlimactic. Maybe his other books are all like that, but i don’t know if I’d try another.

I will finish this, but it’s my last Dean Koontz. His obvious disdain for modern, pluralistic society just drips through his books. His disdain for intellectualism, subtle call outs to the dangers of being “PC”, and references to a “more civil time” in the past is only thinly veiled.
This is the third recent book of his that has included these themes, and it’s very disappointing.

10 years ago David lost the love of his life, Emily, in a car accident. But one day he sees a look alike in a bar and finds that Maddison is almost identical to her. Maddison has her mannerisms, her looks, his heart after a small window of time.
But David isn’t happy with this happenstance. Something doesn’t add up and he goes about finding answer. The answers he finds though are not ones he was expecting. Will he survive the secrets that Maddison is holding? Will he ever find out what happened to his Emily all those years ago? A story about true love and love that stands the test of time mixed with some science fiction.
A decent story, moved at a good clip.

Good Reads really needs a half star system. This would get a 3 1/2. Good story, one of the better efforts from Koontz. I was very interested in the central mystery. It just seemed to give up at the end. I don't mind the places it went or the genres it explored (being vague on purpose). But I would have liked a deeper dive. Odd Thomas will always be his best, but this one was pretty enjoyable.
