This really wasn't how I wanted to end my reading challenge for this year so I'm going to pretend this doesn't count towards my goal...

What a disappointment.

Wendy is just an average girl, living paycheck-to-paycheck when she is attacked in the street on her way to work. She wakes up on a beach with a tall, dark, and handsome tattooed man who can't seem to recall much of anything. He takes her to his own bunker, where he lives with three other men he calls the Lost Boys, and then proceeds to tell Wendy that she is in Neverland, also known as the Fae realm. Wendy is their only hope to overcome the nightmares plaguing the world, but she may be taken by madness before she can help.

Unfortunately, the more I read this book, the more confused I became. The beginning was pretty decent, but then about halfway through things just started all happening at once and with all of the alternating perspectives, it just got too overwhelming. There were so many plot points just thrown at you with no further explanation. Things ended up being overly vague and so much was happening at one point, it just became too much.

I also found Wendy's character overly mouthy and quite annoying. Peter's persona was briefly intriguing, with the handsome man/mysterious life thing going for him, but then things quickly turned wacky and confusing. I liked the idea of Tink being a male, half-human half-fae, but he was too angry and angsty the entire time that I felt that I was back to my own emo stage in middle school. The Twins were just.... odd.... too odd for my liking.

The only good thing going on in this is probably the spice. Hence the two stars. (09/2023)
