The Five

Lily White

4.0 AVERAGE

After finishing this book I was filled with so many emotions. I was confused, frustrated, sad, and happy and I had no clue how to review this book. After waiting to let my feelings settle, I determined that Lily White is a master at her craft.

My feelings for Rainey changed constantly with each part of her story and each page that I turned. At times I pitied her, or I wanted more for her development, but what I needed was for her to realize her self-worth. Her character reminded me that not everyone has a person that can bring you out of that emotionally distraught gutter where you feel you are worth nothing more than the way you are treated. Rainey Day is always at the bottom of the barrel in life…until she meets Rowan.

Rowan had my heart and soul. Life wasn’t good to him. But no matter what, he saw the good in others and he saw the light in Rainey that he wanted to make shine. Rainey just noticed him when it got a little too late.

The mystery and death that follow Rainey leads her to a night that everyone needs answers about. Justin, a psychologist, is put to the test to get the answers from the only survivor of a party gone wrong. But can he resist the temptation that is Rainey Day?

Lily White creates such intense characters with, at times, unforgivable and unredeemable personalities and behaviors. But it’s exactly what I am looking for in a dark romance. I want the gritty, dark, deceitful, and at times, off-putting stories. This story was a mindf*ck for sure!

What a crazy ass book! Heartbreaking and definitely not your average love story. Highly recommend going in “blind” and please check TWs before you start reading! 4.5⭐️

This.

Holy moly!!! This is most definitely one of my top reads for the year! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I’ve already told a few people about this story.

As a therapist, I loved reading Justin’s POV and ultimately how his assessment of her, lead to his decision making.

However, the level of trauma covered in this book was heartbreaking. It was so sickening, it was hard to comprehend those things actually happening to someone. And yet I know it does often.

Rowan- ugh! The early stories about him were heartbreaking. And the impact the environment had on him and his obsession, love, and codependency in regards to Rainey brought out ALL the feels!!

This👏🏾darn👏🏾book👏🏾was TOO good!! And yet so outside of the normal, romance stuff I love to read.

This one was heavy and there are a lot of triggers for sexual abuse so be careful going in. This is not so much a romance but there is a very twisted love story. This ending was fantastic, dark and unexpected. I did this on audio and the narrators were fantastic.

holy shit what did i just read!! This was crazy.. omg.

WTF did I just read!? I'm off to watch cute puppy and kitten videos now.

Ummmm.. okay holy shit. This is definitely one of my top favorite reads of this year!!

Damn, [a:Lily White|5781066|Lily White|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] knows how to tell a story!! This was phenomenal from start to finish. The Five is a dark romantic suspense that is compelling, so original and unputdownable!!

Potential triggers include psychological manipulation, on-page sexual assault and abuse, substance abuse, forced substance use and extreme violence.

Rainey Day was the lone survivor of a gruesome attack. Four of her friends bludgeoned to death at a party with no indication of who would want to harm them or why. Dr. Justin Redding, a psychologist, is tasked with interviewing her to support the investigation... and that's all I will say because honestly this book needs to be experienced. It's a gripping and emotional journey from start to finish as the events of that night are unraveled. I couldn't get enough!!

I was one big, living and breathing secret, the thoughts in me festering, the knowledge in my heart horrifying.

Lily White's brand of darkness is on another level. Her books can nosedive into heartbreaking and even horrifying depths of darkness, but not without intention and tender exploration of her characters' psyches. She writes such realistic grit and trauma combined with suspenseful mysteries and emotional romance that keeps me guessing and glued to the pages. She is so talented!!

All the stars!! Definitely recommend for any dark romance lovers that like twisted stories, childhood connection, traumatic backstories and psychological suspense.

i honestly don’t know what to rate this book because i can’t figure out if i liked it or hated it…

Amazing story

This was an easy 5 star for me. This story sucks you in from the start and doesn't let go until the very last sentence. There were twists and turns that left me arguing what was real and what wasn't with myself more than once. Hands down a must read!
