This took me forever to finish! I read it with my daughter and it was way to descriptive for my liking. I found it slow moving yet interesting enough to keep us reading. Mazie would not give up on it!

An unsung classic- one of my favourite Christmas stories. Such a favourite that I even read it May. But truly, Abbott taps into the timeless magic of the season with this book. It has an almost Narnian quality to it; that magical blend of reality, fantasy and Truth. For me, Kringle will always be a story I curl up into on those long winter nights that herald the birth of the chosen: the birth of Christ.

As I get older, I'm definitely finding that the plot perhaps moves too quickly, but also this is a children's book, and it captures all the important mythology about Christmas PLUS it hits the Christian side of it without overdoing anything, and it's adorable and wonderful and I'm so glad I own it.
4.5 stars, probably
I read this book every December. Simply put, it's brilliant. It's completely unique and wonderfully written and it's a genius way and imaginative way to tell the over-told story of Kris Kringle. This book absolutely never gets old, and bonus, the binding is beautiful.

Although it took me a while to finish this one, it wasn't because I wasn't I love with the story. I got distracted by Halloween and spookiness 😂
I finally got back to Kringle and finished it quickly. This is one I will be handing off to my granddaughter. She will love this one, as did I.

Kringle is a young orphan whose friend and guardian is taken away by goblins one night while protecting him. He vows to find her and sets off on a journey that involves elves, Romans, and pirates. Along the way, he grows up and becomes the man known around the world as Santa Claus.
I went into this book with high hopes and was, sadly, let down. What I was hoping for was an enchanting holiday read with its focus on Santa Claus, but what I got was an epic fantasy adventure featuring a boy who seemed only to have the name ‘Kringle’ in common with Santa Claus.
Kringle starts off well enough, with the feeling an unknown narrator is actually sitting in front of you and telling you the story. They tell of Kringle, how he was born, why he was named Kringle, and give you the sense that he is going to do something to save the world from the goblins. Unfortunately, that’s when it gets difficult to see Kringle as the same jolly man who delivers toys to children every Christmas despite Tony Abbott’s best efforts.
As a fantasy adventure, Kringle is a pretty good story. There’s magic, goblins kidnapping children, pirates ready to invade, and elves who try to foil the goblins’ plans and save as many children as possible. Kringle himself is endearing in his own way, having been sheltered for all of his life, brimming with curiosity, and having a habit of talking to himself – aloud.

Wonderful folktale version of the origin of Santa Claus, with a Scandinavian backstory. Good adventure story.
