The writing was borderline painful. Was a thesaurus heavily involved? 

The names, the made-up language, everything was ridiculous. The characters were flat and unlikeable. Also just boring and slow.

This was my first read as a storygraph recommendation and it did not disappoint! It was nearly everything I was looking for in a fantasy. The world building was well-done, easy to understand and not overwhelmingly dumped on the reader. The story was compelling and gripped me to the end! I am excited to read the next two in the trilogy.
