this was potentially one of the most unhinged books I’ve ever read. this is very 2007 and definitely sexist but I laughed so hard at almost every plot point that I didn’t even mind, it was so wild. SJM should send this women a check though, so much of this was very clearly the inspiration behind her work. can’t wait for the next one and whatever weird shit she comes up with for that.
This book was exactly what I wanted-a fantasy romance with an easy to understand world that I could dip in and out of and never feel lost. I chipped away at this for about a week and just had a fun time.
After reading two disappointing books in a row, I needed something I knew would be good to rejuvenate me. This is a reread for me, and for good reason. A friend told me about this series a few years ago, and I devoured it. This first book is truly magnificent.
The writing is beautiful, the worldbuilding (especially with the Fey) is some of the best I've read, and the plot is compelling and leaves you wanting more. Oh, and the romance is pretty decent too. Honestly I cannot recommend this book enough. An easy 4.5/5 for me.
