I could see why most people really enjoyed the book, but for me, the writing style became tedious. The fact that the story is told from all possible perspectives, systematically switching from character to character, really held the book up. It is as if the author has to REPEATEDLY explain and go over the same point. I think fiction is better when it is less tightly managed. Other than that, it was a pretty enjoyable read.

Heavy on the fantasy. It’s a bit slow, but not unenjoyable. The weird language is very overdone and dumb in the funniest way. Also he turns into a giant cat with wings? lol

I've put off reading this for a long time mainly because I think the cover is just awful. However, I'm so glad I finally gave it a chance because it was so good! The characters are vivid. The book is extremely well-written, and the world building is excellent. I'm already emotionally connected to the characters, and that hardly ever happens with the first book, at least not this strongly! I will be reading book 2 as soon as I possibly can!!

If you are going to do a fated mates thing, I think this is a better way to do it than revealing it way later and essentially erasing the emotional journey to get there (like someone likes to do……)

Also the fact that the fierce creatures of this world are giant flying cats is hilarious. Not sure if that’s intentional but some good camp

This is a very straightforward fantasy-romance. It's pretty much populated with stock characters, and has a little glossary in the back of terms and phrases in the Fey or Eld languages. Due to all of this, and to the slightly awkward writing style, I couldn't help thinking that if Eragon had been a romance, it would have been Lord of the Fading Lands. The plot took quite a long time to get going, and I swear the characters were repeating themselves - at least, the statements about the characters' thoughts were very repetitive.

The book actually had less sexual content than I expected (as a romance) and most of it was very tame, but then it briefly veered off into being overly explicit, enough to make me go "yeccchh." Odd.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but as the plot picked up a bit nearer the end, the book became JUST interesting enough that I MIGHT pick up book two.

I didn't like it too much, it was really plain and boring. I thought nothing really good actually happened and that it was a series of events that should have been somewhat interesting, but wasn't. I didn't like the different view points because I thought it reveled to much and left nothing to the imagination.

This story spent so much time stirring up bad emotions that the good/sweet moments fell to the wayside. When I wasn’t upset or anxious for the characters I was just frustrated and annoyed because they were all so blind and infuriating. Also, the scene changes were clunky and would have benefited from more obvious section breaks. That being said the overarching plot is interesting and I’m curious to see what happens especially since the book ends so abruptly after finally getting somewhere. Not a bad book, but you definitely need to be in the right headspace for it.
