Beautifully written. The audiobook version definitely enhanced the writing, the cadence, the alliteration. It felt like I was listening to art.

Incredible.

Zauner has such a rich story that she uses a few aspects of her life to tell; most of the book is about her relationship with food, and her relationship with her mother. I've never listened to a Japanese Breakfast song, but so little of the book was about Zauner the musical artist that it didn't matter at all. Despite having none of the tragedy in my own life, Zauner's experiences were incredibly relatable. When the book finished, I had to sit in it for a few minutes.

Listening to the audiobook of a memoir read by the author is my favorite way to experience a life story, and Zauner read this a very different way than I would have read the print edition. Not only is the book amazing, but the audiobook heightens it. Will be thinking about Crying in H Mart for a while.

An absolutely incredible book about loss and mourning. It's so sad.
